Listening to The Black Diamond Express is akin to opening a door on prohibition-era Chicago. Their music recalls a time of illegal speakeasies and sepia tones; at full complement they are an eight-piece soaked in poetry, myth and bourbon. Despite a clear roots influence The Black Diamond Express somehow stay true to both Robert Johnson and the Sex Pistols. Led by the enigmatic Jack of Diamonds their combination of slide, acoustic and electric guitar over bass and fiddle, blues harp, banjo, drums and percussion beguiles with the look, the sound and (what really sets them apart) the energy of railroad blues bona fides. Based in Edinburgh, they have been performing around Scotland since 2007. With the forthcoming release of their debut album and its sister DVD, The Black Diamond Express look forward to a busy and productive 2012.
They took the all the stuff they love, and played the HELL out of it with a rocking old time string band…more or less
